Fiji to celebrate Diwali Friday 9th November
Wednesday, 07 November 2007
This Friday 9th November 2007, offices and businesses will shut for a Public Holiday celebrating the Hindu Festival of Lights, also known as Diwali, or Deepawali. Since almost half the population in Fiji Islands is comprised of Indo-Fijians, Hindu festivals are recognised throughout the country. Diwali is a time when homes and business premises are illuminated with flashing lights much in the way that Christmas is celebrated by the Christian community. Families bake numerous sweets and other morsels, and firecrackers are set off to celebrate this happy occasion.
